Yucatan peninsula

Yucatan peninsula is located in the South-East part of Mexico. It includes 3 states : Quintana Roo ( capital : Chetumal), Yucatan (capital : Mérida) and Campeche (capital : Campeche). It is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea on the East and the Gulf of Mexico on the West. The peninsula roughly measures 300km long and 250km wide, the East coast being surrounded by the second biggest coral barrier in the world after Australia.

Many underground ways create a network in this vast limestone part of South East Mexico, offering us Cenotes, typical submerged cavities. Two speleologist divers made a main discovery : they managed to find a connection between the second and third biggest underground rivers in the world, Sac Actun and Nohoch Nah Chich, proving so that actually it is just one only river, the biggest known one for now, 153km long.

Yucatan peninsula is a quite interesting place due to the richness of the fauna and the flora where many natural reserves are waiting to show you their wonders.
